ARA Young Riders’ Program

Alexis is also a strong believer in motivating the younger generations so that our sport always has good, young riders coming up the ranks. She has planned her expenses and costs in order to set aside extra sponsorship money as a fund for young riders in need of financial assistance.

No sport should just be for the rich. Horseback riding takes an immense amount of talent, and that is hard to come by. Anyone with money can buy a nice horse, but very few could ride it successfully. This sport is overrun with dangerous accidents caused by over-mounted riders who moved too quickly up the ranks simply because they can afford the horse that can clear higher level jumpers. Because of the amount of talent it takes to be successful in this sport, Alexis would like to fund those talented, although not as financially rich, in our sport, and also advocate safe riding through correct training and competition.

Guidelines:

Riders must be 21 years of age and younger.

Riders must be currently leasing or owning a horse.

Riders will be in a lesson program with a chosen trainer at ARA’s discretion. This is to make sure that the trainer is qualified to train an ARA Young Rider with competitions in mind.

Riders should currently be riding in an one of the following disciplines: eventing, dressage, or show jumping.

Riders should be willing and motivated to compete!

Remember, this scholarship is for young competitors, to motivate more talented riders to move up with goals in the realm of the three English Olympic disciplines. If you are a hobby rider, that is wonderful! But we do not, at this time, support horse boarding, feed or hay, or veterinary bills.

This scholarship is designed to cover lesson and training costs, as well as some competition costs for the year.

UPDATE: As of January, 2009, we will be accepting applications for 2009’s ARA Young Rider!
